The Kings of Swing

Three great swing singers, special guest Lynn Kennedy, and the world famous Kings of Swing Orchestra combine to take you back to an era when people fell in love to the music of Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Tony Bennett and Doris Day. Whether you are a fan of Sinatra or Bennett, or Robbie Williams and Michael Buble, this celebration of the smooth and sophisticated will have your feet tapping.

Headed by the UK’s most popular singing sensation Tony Benedict it is one of very few shows (nowadays) which features a ‘live and swinging’ orchestra on stage ! Also featured in the show is vocalist Lynn Kennedy who has built up an enviable reputation as the UK’s most outstanding singer of the songs of Doris Day and Peggy Lee.

The show has never been scripted: the original Rat Pack shows in Las Vegas were never scripted, and the Kings of Swing show has been critically acclaimed for its originality. The main part of the show is set around a ‘drinks bar’ and there is plenty of ‘ad lib’ fun and banter between the singers and the musicians of the orchestra. But, the mainstay of the show is the great music and the wonderful music arrangements which the orchestra play. The music has been especially transcribed from original recordings, and re-arranged to suit this orchestra of top professional musicians. The Kings of Swing orchestra is directed by ex BBC Radio Orchestra guest conductor Greg Francis.

Road Directions

If you are coming to Liverpool on the M62, finding the Philharmonic Hall is straightforward. Continue along the motorway until its end and then follow the signs for the city centre, cathedrals and universities (about 3 miles). Turn left at the Metropolitan Cathedral and head past the Everyman Theatre along Hope Street.

If lost, use this maxim: find one cathedral, head for the other. The Phil is halfway between the two.

Public Transport Directions

Philharmonic Hall is situated on Hope Street, approximately 10 minutes’ walk from the city centre. The main entrance is situated on Hope Street at the junction where Hardman Street meets Hope Street opposite the Philharmonic Public House. It is close to Central Station, Lime Street Station, Myrtle Street bus stops and several car parks.
