The re-opening of University of Liverpool’s new £8m Victoria Gallery and Museum is celebrated with a unique photography exhibition of Liverpool and its people.

A total of 40 original images by Liverpool photographer Edward Chambré Hardman capture the city at a time it was influencing the world with its industrial, wartime and maritime activities.

Hardman’s home – 59 Rodney Street - also contains a small display of Hardman’s images .Most of the 142,000 photographs he took during his lifetime are undergoing conservation work and archiving at Liverpool Records Office.

The Victoria Gallery and Museum opens in July. Highlights of the refurbishment include a glass passenger lift within the clock tower.
