Liverpool is a particularly rich area for family connections and shared heritage. Demographic changes during the 20th century led to mass migration of people with Liverpool roots and it's no exaggeration to say that today you can find 'scousers' all over the world. Liverpool was also the port of passage for some 9 million emigrants between 1830 and 1930 from all over Europe to the Americas and Australia and New Zealand.
Liverpool is home to many well-known individuals and as a result, there is evidence of famous names attached to places and street names all around the city. Even those who are known for less notoriety have a famous street name that many know (e.g., James Penny for Penny Lane and Jonas Bold for Bold Street, both of whom were slave traders).
