Hub participant on BMX bike

Are you ready for two days of funky break-dancing, beatboxing, mad tricks and mighty fine music?

You've invited to the UK's biggest and best free urban youth festival, in the European Capital of Culture.

From 17-18 May, extreme sports fans, skaters, bboys, bgirls and bands will take over Otterspool Promenade in Liverpool.

Amateur competitions, free promos, loads of prize giveaways and legends in BMX, skate boarding, break-dancing and graffiti art will all add to the mix. Get the full lowdown from www.hubfestival.co.uk

What’s on

This year’s hub festival features:

• World bike champion Martyn Ashton in the Animal® Relentless bike tour
• Team Extreme ® skate park and vertical ramp, with demos from top BMXers and skaters and amateur competitions
• The UK’s only open air international bboy competition
• 250 metres of the freshest urban art with graffiti artist STOK and the TCT crew.
• Live music from Young Kof, BabyGravy, Metro Manila Aide and Lazy Habits…
• One hour set from the world’s finest human beatboxer Shlomo (hyperlink to http://shlo.co.uk/)
• DJs Icey and Rasp
• Double dutch hip-hop dancing demos and free workshops
• Monta StreetSoccer stars

Calling all boarders, BMXers and in-line skaters
Hub has joined up with Team Extreme® to offer gravity-defying ramps. Want to have a go?

You'll need to fill in and return a disclaimer and release form.

Send it by Thursday 1 May to Susan Whitehead, events manager, Liverpool Culture Company, 3rd Floor Millennium House, 60 Victoria Street, L1 6JH. Or you can pick one up on the day.

(Under 16s must get their forms signed by their parents/guardian.)

A record number of bands applied to perform at hub 2008, the UK’s biggest free urban youth festival.

A total of 145 bands from across the country responded to a search to find the nation’s best unsigned acts to perform live.

The acts that will perform in front of more than 20,000 people at Otterspool Park over Saturday and Sunday, May 17 and 18 are:

They’ll join hub’s confirmed headliners: Shlomo, one of the world's finest human beatboxers, who’ll perform a special one hour set on Sunday using only his voice; Young Kof; Sona Family & Outthebox; Lazy Habits and BabyGravy.
