Co-ordinated nationally by the Civic Trust in partnership with English Heritage, Heritage Open Days celebrates England's fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access (or free events) to properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission.
Every year for four days in September buildings of every age, style and function throw open their doors, ranging from castles to factories, town halls to tithe barns, parish churches to Buddhist temples. It is a once-a-year chance to discover hidden treasures and enjoy a range of tours, events and activities that bring local history and culture to life.
Due to the popularity of previous years, Heritage Open Days in Merseyside (Liverpool, Sefton, St.Helens, Wirral, Knowsley and Halton) will spread across 11 days from 11th to 21st September 2008.
Free of charge and literally on people's doorstep, Heritage Open Days is an event for everyone, whatever their background, age and ability.
In Merseyside, by engaging with local residents at alllevels to participate and raise awareness of local heritage, it is also an initiative to encourage visitors to the region to learn about the local Heritage.
