There’s just over a week to go until Eurovision magic captivates Liverpool City Centre all over again!

One year on from the city hosting THE most successful Eurovision Song Contest of all time, Liverpool is donning its sequins once again for another musical extravaganza.

On Saturday 11 May, Liverpool Loves Eurovision will see a series of free, family-friendly events ranging from Eurovision buskers and dancers popping up at city centre locations right through to the return of the hugely popular Euroclub – last year’s official Eurovision nightclub – which will take over Camp and Furnace once again.

Between 2-7pm the Pier Head will be transformed into a deep-sea party with Aquatopia – which will see the return of the blue and yellow submarine – one of the highlights of last year’s EuroFestival programme. Free family workshops where people can create their own fishy fancy dress accessories will start the day and then the party will kick off with a whole host of DJs, Ukrainian acts, sea puppets and dance performances. The event will come to life thanks to the creativity and imagination of the Invisible Wind Factory.

From 1-7pm, Beats on the Streets will take over Castle Street, Liverpool ONE and the Royal Albert Dock Liverpool when 30 pop-up music and dance performances by local talent will take over the locations throughout the day. Expect a soundtrack featuring Eurovision hits from across the years.

The Bluecoat will mark the anniversary with Fly High – a beautiful art installation of blue and yellow butterfly lanterns created at family sessions. The butterflies represent how Liverpool shone under the global Eurovision spotlight and have been curated by artist Andrea Ku from B4 Biodiversity.

Businesses across the city are also getting in on the action and will be re-living last May with viewing parties, Eurovision quizzes, a burlesque extravaganza, a party cruise and even some Eurovision-themed cocktail making sessions.

Liverpool’s Director of Culture, Claire McColgan CBE, said:

“May 2023 was a pivotal moment in this city’s cultural history and we wanted to bring back a bit of that Eurovision magic that united us all last year.

“It will be fantastic to see the return of Aquatopia which brought such bonkers and beautiful chaos to the city centre as part of EuroFestival in 2023, and it will be amazing to see crowds head down to the Pier Head on Saturday to enjoy this equally quirky second instalment.

“And once again there is a real Team Liverpool approach, as local businesses support Liverpool Loves Eurovison with a wide range of events which means there’s a little bit of Eurovision stardust for everyone to enjoy.”
